Say hello to our newest members!

Thank you to everyone who applied for Abba Modern this semester! We were once again blown away by the number of applicants we had! We hope that the audition process was a blessing to you, whether it encouraged you to seek God more or seek dancing more, or both!

We are blessed to have a number of people joining Abba Modern this semester! Welcome to our new, new members Christine Chang, Jennie Vu and Lisa Wang! And welcome back to our new, old members Charmaine Ramos, Christopher Go, and Justin Yu!

We had our first practice today and are very excited for this semester and the opportunity to dance with new and old faces!

Spring 2012 Auditions!

Hopefully you’ve seen the facebook event already, but if you haven’t, here’s the info for our auditions this semester!

Who: YOU! Whether you’ve danced before or not, we would love to have fun dancing with you and share this art that God has given each and every one of us. Also, if you are not interested in auditioning for Abba Modern, but just want to dance, feel free to come!

What: At the dance audition, we will be teaching a short piece for you to learn and perform. There will also be a written application and interview, but more information about the rest of the audition process will be given at the dance audition.

Where: Lower Sproul

When: Thursday, January 26. 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
**Make ups: Sunday, January 29. 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM**

Why: To have fun and to audition for Abba Modern! It’s also an opportunity for you to dance with us and find out what Abba Modern is about.

How: Just show up and be ready to dance!

Abba Modern Application Spring 2012

It will be due on Sunday, January 29th at 10:00 PM.  If you have any questions, or need to turn it in late email us!

Abba Modern is 1.5 years old!

Abba Modern is now one and a half years old! It’s crazy how time flies and how far God has brought us.  Praise the Lord for being so good to us and abundantly blessing the things we’ve been doing.  Our performances are done for this semester and we hope you were blessed by our set! We were definitely blessed in the process of creating the set and in experiencing the honesty of our members through their choreography.  This set means a lot to us and we’re excited to say that we will be getting to perform it one more time next semester!

God has blessed us with the opportunity to perform at Ken-Ya Dance 2012.  This is a showcase that raises money for Kenya Dream.  It is a great cause that works with Rotary International to financially support schools in Kenya and help kids get an education!  So please come to support this cause! (You can come to support us too!)

1st Performance of the Fall 2011 Semester!

Can you believe it?

It’s already nearing the end of the Fall 2011 Semester and we had the pleasure of performing tonight at Danceworx’s Fall Showcase in the Zellerbach Playhouse. Throughout a crazy week of practice and finishing our set, we were able to experience God’s goodness and abundance the entire time (even today, when one of our members got their phone stolen, but miraculously got it back from a random guy in Oakland! PTL).  All the praise goes to Jesus and we are so grateful that we get to join in with what he’s doing on this earth!  If you missed our first performance, we’re only performing a couple more times so come check us out! We will also have a special mini-piece at both of the following events that was inspired by the issue of sex trafficking.

December 3 – [M]ovement Showcase

Wow, it’s been a while since we updated this thing.  But theres some exciting news!

First, we have some new additions to our family!

Second, Co-founding Director Hubert Sung has graduated and has left the bay area in pursuit of a new mission that God has put on his heart.

Third, our new spiritual director is Beatriz Umali!

Fourth, We are having our AbbaShop of the semester this Saturday, October 29 @Lower Sproul from 1-2! Come dance with us and invite your friends!

Fall 2011 Audition Process!

Hey everyone! Thanks for coming out to dance today! We had a great time teaching you a piece that is very special to us and we hope you had fun!

Officially Finished for Spring 2011

Where do we even begin? We are officially done with our performances this semester! Words cannot express how blessed we feel to have had this opportunity to perform and share our set with everyone. It has been an amazing experience for each and every one of us. God really had more envisioned for us, than we could have ever imagined for ourselves.

Abba Modern Spring 2011

AbbaShop Number 2

Abba Modern will be holding its second AbbaShop of the semester this TUESDAY, May 3rd at 11 am. Our very own Sarah Pinner, Beatriz Umali, and Michael Zhou will be teaching so come out to learn! It will be very beginner friendly so no previous dance experience is necessary! In addition to being fun, we’ll also be able to share a little about how God has been working in Abba Modern and its members. So come out, because we would love to share our love for both dance and God with you!

We also have 2 performances left, so if you haven’t seen us perform yet, we’ll be performing at Interpraise and the Thrive Benefit Concert

UPDATE (5/4/11)

Thank you to everyone that came out to our workshop! We hope that you enjoyed dancing with us as much as we did! It was so encouraging to see people going out of their comfort zone to express their passion for Jesus through dance.

For those who weren’t able to make the workshop, here’s a video! Watch out for future workshops too! We would love to share our love for Jesus through the art of dance.

Half way done!

So we are officially over half done with our performances for the semester!
Tonight we were blessed to partner with To An Unknown God at their Cafe Night! They are a Journal of Christian thought at Berkeley that contains scholarly and creative pieces as well as photography and artwork. So check them out! They’re doing some really cool stuff with creative outlets that God has gifted them with. Also, they are always looking for submissions for the magazine and for people to help them financially. All their funds come from private donations!

So thanks To an Unknown God for a great cafe night and for partnering in God’s artistic movement!
